A Winter Newport Elopement — Wyatt & Tamara’s Navy Love Story
Some love stories just move fast — not because they’re rushed, but because they’re right. Wyatt and Tamara’s winter elopement here in Newport, Rhode Island is honestly one of those stories that reminds you love doesn’t always follow a timeline.
A Military Love Story (Which Makes It Extra Special to Me)
Tamara is an activated reserve service member with the United States Navy, temporarily stationed here from the Carolinas. Wyatt grew up as a Navy brat and ended up staying in the Newport area working in finance.
They met only six months ago — but as Tamara said perfectly:
“When you know, you know.”
And honestly? I get that deeply. I met my own husband 16 years ago while we were both stationed in San Diego. We got married after just four months. We thought we’d do a quick elopement for the paperwork and plan a wedding later too… life had other plans.
This Location… Are You Kidding Me?!
You would never guess this gorgeous spot is actually on Naval Station Newport near the Officer Club & War College. The water, the bridge in the background, that gazebo — it’s basically made for a private, intimate elopement.
And then add fresh February snow, snow boots under a stunning dress… it just felt magical. It also quietly says something I love:
There is no “perfect time” to get married except when you’re ready.
Not when the budget is perfect.
Not when planning is easy.
Just when you know this is your person.
Why I Always Tell Couples to Document the Elopement
Wyatt and Tamara may still do a bigger celebration someday — and I truly hope they do if that’s what they want. But getting this moment documented matters so much.
Because sometimes “later” never happens.
My husband and I ended up stationed in beautiful Naples, Italy shortly after we married, and a formal wedding just never felt necessary anymore. I don’t regret skipping the big wedding — but I do regret not having beautiful photos of the day we committed our lives to each other.
That’s why I’m so passionate about photographing elopements.
Why Elopements Have My Whole Heart
I photograph traditional weddings too, but elopements?
That’s where my heart really is.
They’re raw.
They’re emotional.
They’re honest.
It’s not about impressing anyone or putting on a show — it’s about the two of you choosing each other. And honestly, that’s what marriage is supposed to be about.
A Little Encouragement If You’re On the Fence
So many couples hold off because weddings feel expensive, overwhelming, or logistically complicated — especially military couples navigating deployments, relocations, and unpredictable schedules.
But marriage itself?
That part is simple.
If you’ve found your person, that’s enough.
The rest is just details.
And Wyatt and Tamara? They reminded me (and hopefully you too) that sometimes the most beautiful weddings are the ones that focus on what actually matters — love, commitment, and starting forever together.
If you’re dreaming about an elopement in Newport — especially something intimate, relaxed, and genuinely you — I’m always happy to help capture it.
